How can we help?

Four words describe our Headteacher Recruitment service:

  • Bespoke
  • Professional
  • Friendly
  • Effective

Our team have handled many appointment processes over several decades but what makes us different is that they are all school improvement specialists, who spend most days of the week in school supporting senior teams to improve their leadership and raise Teaching and Learning outcomes. We believe it is vital not to just understand the details of a recruitment process but to have a clear perspective on the current issues and pressures on schools.

Recruiting a new Headteacher can be a daunting and extremely challenging task. A governing body will often experience the process only once, so experienced support is essential. The appointment of the right Headteacher can provide the catalyst for a school to refresh its provision and make great strides in a short period of time.

The process can be very rewarding for all involved but needs to handled in a friendly and flexible way to ensure governors feel they have control and understanding of the process, guided by an independent adviser.

The advertising, visits and candidate conversations need to make the school stand out from the crowd and encourage applications.

The selection process, jointly designed with the governing body, should contain a range of practical exercises (e.g. lesson observations, assembly, written tasks, leadership meetings) and interview sessions (Governor, staff and pupil/student). We believe a fundamental element of the selection process is the involvement of as many members of the school community as possible.

In recent times we have supported successful recruitments in Nursery, Primary, Secondary and Special/PRU schools. Reference schools can be provided on request.

An outline of the steps in the recruitment process is set out below.  For further details or to discuss your vacancy please contact Andy Best or Terry Rollings on 0800 788 0444 or alternatively send us an e-mail using the form on the right.
